Meet Michael of Studio van M

Hey Michael! What does Studio van M an expertise in?
Branding and website design for interior designers, content creators and luxury hospitality.

How did you get here? What steps did you take to end up here?
I studied graphic design and printmaking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and honed my craft through working for a wide range of clients in agency, in-house, and freelance settings before opening my own studio.

What fuels your creativity?
Self guided passion projects fuel my creativity. Setting time aside to make things for myself and experiment with new techniques has been pivotal to finding my style. The discoveries I make in working “just for fun” fill me up and encourage me to keep digging!

What is a project you really enjoyed and what made it so enjoyable?
We do a lot of event collateral branding for the Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown, and more recently have paired print collateral with a digital component. I love it because I can use my skills as a graphic designer and web developer to make a cohesive experience at every touch point for hotel guests.

What defines a good from a great client for you?
A client that trusts our expertise.

What defines a terrible client for you?
An indecisive client! Reworking designs gets old pretty quickly.

What makes you different from competitors/peers in your field?
We are woman-led, US-based, and fully remote with a niche focus on luxury interiors, builders, and content creators.

How would you describe your style?
Clean and rigid with a tiny bit of space left for whimsy. I like a tight structure with an unexpected color palette and quippy copy.

What trends are you seeing in your field right now (or to come)?
We’re seeing an older generation of businesses taking the leap to taking their businesses online. This specific demographic is looking for pared back and refined representations of their work. There’s an art to showing exactly enough to get the point across.

Why do you like working with No Revisions?
There is an implied trust and expediency. We like spending more time on doing what we do best!
