E-Commerce Trends

When it comes to websites, they are the cornerstone of sustainable sales for your e-commerce brand. Typically, websites follow one of two paths: they either imitate another brand they believe is successful or they go entirely custom, which can be challenging to maintain and may offer a poor user experience.

So, how do you balance best practices with a unique user experience? Let's explore some e-commerce trends to help you create a website that tells your unique brand story intentionally and distinctively.

Dynamic Content: Aplos' product detail pages (PDP) feature a "you may also like" section that dynamically provides personalized product recommendations based on user clicks and browsing history. Dynamic content not only boosts conversion rates but also offers a highly personalized experience. Similarly, Sow Vital’s PDP includes a “Recommended products” section that provides personalized suggestions based on previously viewed pages, helping create a tailored shopping experience.

Micro Interactions: Futurewise’s hero section starts with a stunning video that seamlessly transitions into a product carousel as you scroll, encouraging customers to continue exploring. Coterie also offers a unique interaction where hovering over product cards reveals a 360-degree view, providing a subtle yet engaging interaction.

Micro Animations: Springer Pets, a vibrant dog accessories brand, uses bold colors and a subtle micro animation of a dog running across their email sign-up callout to enhance their playful brand story. Similarly, Yellowbird uses subtle animations in the hero section and email sign-up area to highlight their "World’s Tastiest Hot Sauce" callout, adding freshness to their playful brand. However, it's important to use animations sparingly and intentionally to avoid overwhelming users or slowing down the site.

Brand Storytelling: Graza effectively uses brand storytelling on their site, especially on their PDPs, to explain their products in a visually appealing way. This method breaks down information, making it easier to digest without overwhelming the user. Holden Rings also excels in brand storytelling through intentional copy, imagery, and curated content, creating a seamless shopping experience for their engagement rings.

Asymmetrical Layouts: Wooden Spoon Herbs utilizes an asymmetrical layout in the "About Us" section of their homepage, presenting information uniquely and interactively. The Good Weird site stands out with its nostalgic Y2K aesthetic and bold modern colors. The asymmetrical layout in the “Where Makeup and Skincare Hand Out” section highlights the unique selling points of Good Weird’s products.

In 2024, e-commerce web design trends have evolved to blend visual aesthetics with the strategic functional needs of building an e-commerce business. To stay competitive, focus on implementing these trends and testing if they increase conversion rates, engagement rates, and overall customer satisfaction.
