What’s up with Dupes?

Dupes are nothing new, but seems to be a trend that is sticking around on social media.

Typically a “dupe” is another version of a product - this has most likely been related to price and product quality is comparable. The best dupes seem to be close to identical or you will find (especially in the fashion space) designer goods inspired items from fast fashion retailers. Influencers and content creators are spreading the word about dupes, with some even having full dupe dedication accounts.

When it comes to the brand side, it can be intimidating to call your brand a dupe or mention other brands. But there are ways for you to still participate in this content topic.

Let’s get into the options:

  1. Actual Dupe

    1. Maybe you literally created your product as a competitor in the market - brining something better or cheaper to what is already out there. Using complaints/negative reviews and competition content can be used to your advantage.

  2. Competitor Review

    1. Is your product so similar to a competitors that you are always fighting for the sale? Don’t be afraid to make direct comparisons. It doesn’t always have to be about putting your competitors down, but doing a real comparison to show the key differences. This could lead to less returns and happier customers feeling like they made the right choice because YOU educated them.

  3. No Dupes/Best in Class

    1. Maybe you have been called out as a dupe - or don’t want people to even think about it - you are best in class! You can create content around not having dupes as you have a truly unique product in the market - of course there may ben similar products out there but your’s truly cannot be compared to. This can come from the value, product quality, offering/features, etc.

Don’t want to post this content on your own but still want to participate? You can work with creators and influencers (some of who already post this content consistently) to talk about your product.
