Beyond the Surface of Branding with Pickld

Branding is more than just a logo or a catchy slogan—it's the strategy behind your brand and the way you want to communicate to the world about who you are as a brand. It's what sets you apart from the competition, creates a lasting impression on your audience, and builds trust and loyalty over time.

From startups to big leagues, investing in your brand is like nailing the perfect serve that changes the entire match.

How to Build a Brand: The Step-by-Step Guide

First off, think about getting a designer on board to launch your brand. While it’s tempting to go the DIY route, trust me, branding is where we truly can flex our design muscles. Branding is no easy feat, however, with the right strategy and approach, success is within reach. Here’s a step-step guide to help you get started:

1. Define Your Brand Strategy: Before you can build a brand, you need to know what you stand for. Start by defining your brand's mission, vision, and values. What sets you apart from the competition? What do you want to be known for? Answering these questions will help you lay the foundation for your brand strategy.

2. Identify Your Target Audience: Who are you trying to reach with your brand? Understanding your target audience— their needs, wants, and pain points—is key to crafting a brand message that resonates with them. Conduct market research, gather data, and create buyer personas to help you zero in on your ideal customer.

3. Develop Your Brand Identity: Your brand identity is the visual representation of your brand—the logo, colors, typography, and imagery that set you apart from the competition. Take the time to develop a cohesive and compelling brand identity that reflects your brand's personality and values.

4. Craft Your Brand Story: Every brand has a story to tell. Whether it's the story of how you got started, the values that drive you, or the impact you're making in the world, your brand story is what connects you to your audience on a deeper level. Craft a compelling narrative that resonates with your target audience and brings your brand to life.

5. Build Your Brand Presence: Once you've defined your brand strategy and developed your brand identity and story, it's time to put yourself out there. Build a strong online presence through your website, social media, and other digital channels. Get involved in your community, attend events, and network with other businesses and influencers in your industry.

6. Measure and Iterate: Building a brand is an ongoing process. You will need to pivot and make sure that your brand is evolving the way you want it to. It’s also important to pay attention to how people are perceiving your brand, their level of engagement and how you want to move forward.

Case Study: Pickld - A Passion Project in Pickleball

Enter Pickld, a passion project born from a love of Pickleball—a sport that's part tennis, part badminton, and all fun! It’s a brand that aims to celebrate the idea of play, emphasizing that sports should be a fun activity. Pickld creates fun and playful pickleball paddles and gear for enthusiasts of all ages.

The vision is to combine functionality with style that would cater to both professional athletes and recreational players. The brand’s mission is to create pickleball gear that enhances performances while reflecting the dynamic nature of the sport. With a focus on quality and community, Pickld aims to inspire players to elevate their game and enjoy every moment of that great serve. The colors used are inspired by real-life courts, bringing in a sense of authenticity and vibrancy to the products.

The logo is a crucial part of Pickld’s identity, capturing the essence of play. It features playful typography and if you look at the ‘p’ in Pickld, the counter (the hole in the letterform) resembles a pickleball paddle with a ball on top of it, visually representing the brand. The name itself already pokes fun at the sport. Beyond the logo, the visual identity combines design elements that tell the brand’s story. The playful movement of text is woven throughout all forms of communication, creating a dynamic feel. The color palette, with its bold and vibrant hues, complements the energetic typography and graphic elements. Whether it’s a poster you spot at a park or a shirt showcasing the brand’s aesthetics, every aspect of Pickld’s branding is designed to convey the excitement and energy of a fun match on the court.
