Meet: Page & Plate

Interview with Laura Scherb of Page & Plate

What’s your expertise in?
I specialize in photography for food and beverage focused clients, whether consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands, restaurants, chefs, or cookbook authors! I also do all of my own prop styling.

How did you get here?
What steps did you take to end up here? I had a winding journey to my current job! I graduated with a degree in professional writing and then went to work at a governmental consulting firm after school. While I was there, I started Page & Plate, a food blog that I cooked and shot for in the evenings. I had a few clients reach out to ask if I could provide photography, and from there, I really invested in classes and equipment to make myself a better photographer. Fast forward to 2023, and I work in food, beverage, and product photography. I still create recipes on the side for my Substack, but photography is my bread and butter!

What fuels your creativity?
Travel. It sounds crazy to say, but going to new places and seeing the light, the landscapes, the interior design, and, of course, the food that makes a place what it is never fails to reinvigorate my creative drive.

What defines a good from a great client for you?
I love working with people who are excited. And by excited, I mean excited about anything or everything. From founders who are insanely passionate about what they do to creative directors who live to put together a shoot plan, anyone who’s happy and excited and energetic is my dream client! It makes it so easy to really deliver the best photos possible.

What defines a terrible client for you?
Someone who doesn’t understand the value of the content I’m creating for them. If they’re going to be second guessing the value of what I’m bringing to the table and creating for them, we likely won’t be a good fit.

What makes you different from peers in your field?
As a food stylist and prop stylist, I bring an extra level of detail and understanding to the photos I take. I understand food and drink and how it behaves on set and on camera, which allows me to showcase your products or food in their best light (literally!). Plus, all of the props and backdrops I have in my studio are custom-sourced from around the world to fit clients of all kinds.

How would you describe your style?
Bright, lively, and detailed! I try to chameleon myself based on a client’s specific needs, but I love working with color and texture to tell a story.

What trends are you seeing in your field right now (or to come)?
I think we’re going to see a huge push towards nostalgia in brands that are considered more mainstream. Burger King has already started to do it, and I think more will follow. There’s a desire to get back to the “good old days” and to recreate funky, quirky sets based on those times and design motifs.

Why do you like working with No Revisions?
I love that No Revisions streamlines what can be a stressful process for clients. There’s so much pressure these days to create the best content for the biggest bang for your buck. It can get really intense to find the right partner! But No Revisions makes it easy. :)
